Education: Obtain a high school diploma or
GED. Enroll in a sterile processing technician program, typically offered at
community colleges or vocational schools. Our program here at USIC can be completed
in 4 months. Your coursework will cover sterilization procedures, infection control,
and equipment handling.
Certification: Pass a certification exam, such as the CRCST
(Certified Registered Central Service Technician) offered by the HSPA (Healthcare
Sterile Processing Association). Certification isn’t mandatory in Texas but is
highly recommended for better job prospects. If you pursue CRCST certification from
HSPA, it’s required that you pass the certification exam and complete 400 hours of
hands-on experience in a Central Service department. These hours can be completed
before testing or within 6 months of passing the exam. Please note that you are
responsible for obtaining the 400 hours of hands-on experience once you finish our
Sterile Processing Technician course- USCI will not provide this training.
